High-purity thiourea as an activator in water electrolysis
Thiourea is versatile as an intermediate product for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, technical products, and applications in the field of renewable energy. Tailored to market needs, Alzchem offers different qualities: technical, chemical, and pharmaceutical.
A new and very exciting application for thiourea is in the field of electrolysis. Water electrolysis provides an environmentally friendly method for hydrogen production, especially when renewable energy sources like solar or wind energy are used. Because this process allows for the production of hydrogen without harmful emissions, making it a promising technology for sustainable energy generation in the future.
In the electrolysis of water, water (H2O) is split into its component parts hydrogen(H2) and oxygen (O2). This is done by applying an electrical voltage to two electrodes immersed in water. The addition of thiourea activates the electrode and thus increases the efficiency of the process.
In addition to water electrolysis, thiourea is also used in other electrochemical processes, such as lithium batteries. There, it serves as an additive in the electrolyte and contributes to the formation of a stable, protective layer on the anode, improving the cycle stability and performance of the batteries.
