Eminex®: Enhance liquid manure – noticeably reduce methane and CO2 emissions
Since its introduction, the slurry additive Eminex® has been convincing with its reliable reduction of methane and CO2 emissions from slurry by 90–100%. The manufacturer, Alzchem, points this out in the run-up to EuroTier 2024. The practical results available to date are underpinned by calculations from the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture: The TEKLa calculation tool (Treibhausgas-Emissions-Kalkulator-Landwirtschaft) has shown that the CO2 footprint of milk production can be reduced by 11–12% through the application of Eminex®. This is also confirmed by initial research results at the University of California: Professor Frank M. Mitloehner's team concludes that “(...) Eminex® is a promising tool to mitigate the negative environmental impact of manure management”.
Improvement of environmental effects and slurry properties
The use of Eminex® has been well accepted on farms. In addition to the positive environmental effects, the slurry properties are also improved. Problems with floating layers as well as foaming and inhomogeneous slurry are now a thing of the past. Some dairy and food manufacturers in Europe are already testing the use of Eminex® on pilot farms. At Mario Frese's ‘climate milk farm’ in northern Hesse, for example, the manure from 111 lactating dairy cows has been treated with Eminex® since July 2023. Using Eminex® all year-round results in an annual savings potential of 144 tonnes of CO2eq for the dairy herd.
‘Interested visitors to EuroTier are welcome to visit our stand D26 in hall 20 to see for themselves how a better CO2 footprint of liquid manure and improved manure properties are linked. There is a reason why several thousand farms in Europe have already used Eminex® since its introduction,’ reports Benedikt Kappelsberger, Product Manager Agriculture at Alzchem.
